Donald Wells , Vice President of Marketing
Donald Wells joined the Sweethearts team in May 2009. Donald studied dance at the University of Maryland, College Park and was a dancer in the 1996 Summer Olympics Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Atlanta. In 1993, he started as choreographer of the NBA’s Washington Bullets (now called the Wizards) and in 1996 took over the Directorship. For several years Donald assisted with the University of Maryland Dance Team, going to Nationals with them each year.
In 2009 Donald Wells finished working with the Washington Redskins as Director of Entertainment and Cheerleading where he spent the last 12 years building an amazing program. Under Donald’s leadership the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders started the Junior Redskins Cheerleaders program, annual swimsuit calendar, the Variety Show and in 1998 he created the tag name “First Ladies of Football”. In 2000 he officially changed the squads name to the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders in order to create more marketing possibilities. Under his leadership they became confident, self-sufficient, successful and positive role models for the community -- something that other teams now emulate.
Donald’s most fondest memories are his touring with the Cheerleaders to entertain the American and Coalition forces around the world. He has traveled on 27 DOD Tours that have taken him to over 40 countries. Donald is excited to have joined the leadership of Sweethearts for Soldiers and is looking forward to increasing the global awareness of this amazing non-profit organization. |
