My father is a Lt. Col. In the Marine Corps., and I’ve moved over 18 times since birth as a result of growing up in a military family. My father served in both Iraq and Afghanistan post 9-11. Because of this, I understand firsthand the sacrifice our brave service members and their families make. My boyfriend is also an Ensign in the US Navy, and graduated from the Naval Academy last year. All I’ve known is the military lifestyle, and it’s never easy on those serving, or their loved ones.
During my time cheering for the Baltimore Ravens, I didn’t have the opportunity to go on a military entertainment tour and I feel like I missed out on such an incredible experience. Our troops sacrifice so much for our country, our liberty, and each and every one of us; the least I could do is volunteer a miniscule amount of time to go oversees and give back. Even if it just means simply putting a smile on someone’s face, and bringing with me a little touch of home, to the men and women who have been gone for such a long time.
Now that I’m a part of Sweethearts for Soldiers I have the opportunity to give back to our troops abroad, and overseas. This really is a remarkable organization that touches so many hearts. I’m honored to be a part of this team and I look forward to giving up the sidelines and cheering on the men and women that make up our armed forces.
God Bless!
Sarah
